The Sauna.
I belong to the gym around the corner from my apartment. I go to this gym because is the closest one to my apartment, therefore removing even the possibility I could avoid going by saying it’s too cold/snowing/dangerous to get there. I could actually hop over the fence of my apartment building and be in the backyard of the gym.
The gym isn’t Equinox, but its works; there’s a...

In the Black
Our tiny peninsula, hanging from
what they would come to call Queens was sold then
Twenty-five dollars, the deed agreed sum
Dollar more than they got for Manhattan
But honest history could never say
we’d been bilked, even here at Shinnecocke
Those who dared live between Ocean and Bay

living in apartments and houses and huge cheap...
Who didn’t read today’s New York Times story about the guy living in the 1,200 square foot apartment in the West Village, and paying under $400 for it? My taste in news generally runs local, so I was excited to see a few scandalous local politicians, some terrible decisions by Mayor Bloomberg, and a special election in my time working in a newsroom. These aren’t ranked...

I was at the local swearing-in for Rep. Bob Turner yesterday. Right as he was getting sworn in a protester carrying a sign interrupted it by yelling “Bob Turner has only been in office for two months and he already…” before he was thrown out by, from what I could see, a group of people, some cops and some non-cops.
One of these people was Kevin Hiltunen, dubbed “New...
